Pearl River, NY (February 26, 2008) – Insightix, the developer of IT visibility and network access control software, today announced that the company was recognized in The 451 Group report titled "Network Access Control: 2008 is a Do-or-Die Year" for its novel approach to network access control. The 451 Group is a technology industry analyst company focused on the business of enterprise IT innovation. The report takes measure of the NAC industry by looking at its history, how it has evolved in the past five years and the forces that will transform the market for access control products.
"Insightix offers a way to extend NAC to 100% of the IP-enabled devices on a network, rather than the 70% or 80% that just happen to be PCs," commented Paul Roberts, senior analyst of the enterprise security practice at The 451 Group and author of the report. "Insightix’s decision to marry network discovery with NAC addresses such enterprise IT pains points as multiplatform support, the preference for agentless approaches to NAC and the need for effective policy enforcement and post-admission screening." This comment appeared in an independent report, titled "Network Access Control: 2008 is a Do-or-Die Year," which was published in February of 2008 (see Editor’s Note below).
The 451 Group noted in the report that the discovery and tracking of both managed and unmanaged devices will be a required NAC feature as enterprises clamp down on unmanaged and rouge devices on their networks. The 451 Group also identified in the report that in the near term, with compliance as a driver, asset discovery will become a key feature of NAC products.
Roberts continued in the report, "We do tend to agree with Insightix that NAC is becoming a component of IT governance and, thus, will need to extend enterprise-wide. For organizations with hundreds or thousands of branch offices, that means NAC will have to be achieved in a way that doesn’t entail the deployment of hundreds or thousands of NAC appliances."
Insightix’s network access control solution – Insightix NAC – differs from other NAC products by delivering complete and real-time network access control, ensuring that only authorized and compliant devices are allowed to access and operate on the network. Insightix NAC utilizes the company’s patent-pending Stateful Network Detection technology, which generates and maintains in a real-time "state" of all devices connected to the network. The deployment of Insightix NAC requires no software agents, switch integration, specialized software or hardware replacement.
"As more than one IT decision-maker pointed out to us, access control and policy enforcement are of little value for organizations that don’t even know how many or what kinds of systems they have on their networks at any given time," further commented Roberts. "Companies need to know what’s on their networks…we see smaller firms such as Insightix gaining traction with technology that blends asset discovery with policy enforcement and access control."
